Down the Line- Jose Gonzalez

An old favorite, but recently has become relevant in my life again, and is racking up plays in my iTunes library this week.

I was introduced to Jose by my grandma, and I absolutely love his unique, soothing voice, and his lyrics are abound with relatability and depth.

diy: pinecone and paper mobile

I got inspired to make this after finding a tree filled with these beautiful tiny pinecones. I decided to add the paper element because I wanted to fill out the mobile, and I think the two mediums work very well together. This is a super easy and fun thing to make, I got the kids I nanny involved and they loved it, so this could be a great activity to do with your children as well.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

an old book, scissors, tape, sticks, pinecones, dental floss

1. You will want first tie dental floss to your first (or only, if you so desire) branch to hang it with. Then, tying the ends of pinecones onto the dental floss, either one on a strand, or multiple, hang and balance from your stick so that the stick hangs evenly. This will take some moving around to eventually get them hanging evenly.

2. Now you will want to make your paper garlands. These don't have to be froma book, they could be hand drawn images, or cut out shapes, whatever you think will look best. Cut out the desired shape and begin to tape the backside onto the dental floss, altrenating which side has the tape facing up, as shown below. Then hang where you want to on the branches!!

A fun and easy craft- perfect for a gift or for yourself!

what you will need:

Sturdy Paper

Scissors

Black Pen

Watercolors

Tape

String

pick out some images you would like to draw on each pennant- I usually do around 6.

In my example, I am making one for my good friend Jeremy, so I chose images that remind me of him. I decided on:

the letter "J", a teacup, a spray can, paintbrushes, a roll of film, a book, a math symbol.

now cut out some pennant shapes, and get drawing!!

if you're like me it may take you a few tries to get your drawing just right, so cut many extra rounded triangles.

now, let's add some color!

now tape these little works of art onto your string, and VOILA! instant personalized decoration that will look cute in any room :)

wet art show

Last night I attended "Wet Art" a benefit for the boys and girls club, featuring art made out of wetsuits. Each artist featured was paired up with a surfer, and given their wetsuit to use as a medium for whatever art piece they chose to make. My good friends and neighbors, Olin Borgeson and Sander Borgeson were featured as surfer/artists, and at ages 12 and 16 they were by far the youngest in the show. It was really neat to see the variety of work produced using one common denominator, and it was a fun night overall.

thrift finds 2/2

met my grandma at the bargain barn today at opening-

i always end up going later and forgot how great it is to go right at 10!

it's funny how some days you find a bunch of vintage stuff, and sometimes a bunch of new things!

today i found 1 vintage silk shirt, 4 newer shirts, one with the tag still on!

and one basic black sweater.

grand total? $1.83 :) way to do it

A couple months ago I did a shoot with Hannah, and it is by far one of my favorites I've done. It was so fun, and the photos turned out so great. Here are a few of my faves:

This photo frame is the perfect present for yourself, or someone else who would appreciate something to hang on their wall that is a departure from the norm.

WHAT YOU NEED:

-Blank Frame (thrift store is perfect for this, I got mine for 50 cents)

-String/Wire (I used waxed linen, but really anything will do)

-Small Clothespins (Beverly's, or any craft store, around $2)

-Nails & Hammer

-Decorations for frame (Optional, I used buttons I had laying around, but I also was thinking of decoupaging with mod-podge)

-Photos, Postcards, Whatever you'd like to display

How easy is this! You simply turn the frame over, hammer in your a nail on one side, tie the string, repeat on the other side, makign sure the string is nice and taut, and do another row, or even 2, if you so desire. Decorate the frame, pin your photos on, and VOILA, instant wall art !

Back in October, I did a shoot with the lovely Makenzie. We drove down to Pescadero, my favorite shooting location, and with her expert styling we were able to pull off a bunch of really great looks that were really current and envy-worthy. instagram

I've been an iPhone user for awhile now, but only recently downloaded the popular app, Instagram. I was immediatly hooked posting 2 or 3 photos a day, and am constantly checking my feed to see what my friends are taking pictures of.

What's so great about this app, at least for me, is that it takes the 2 things I love most, my phone, and my camera, and puts them together and lets you share your pictures so fast and easily. It also has really great editing that really gives life to your pictures, it helps you tell the story of your day to day life.

I am getting worried though, that Insta is making my life too easy, as a photographer, noramlly in a situation I'd be freaking out that I forgot my camera, I stay really calm and just think "hey, I've got Instagram, the pictures will turn out just as good"... is it making me lazy? Is this the reason my d5100 has been collecting dust lately?

Maybe so, but am I going to stop? Probably not. Love it.
